Kid Sister, “Ultraviolet”

KidSister

So I know the Kid Sister album has been out for a while now (after being pushed back time and time again), but I just got around to listening to it now. I was really enamored with her when I first came across her music for the first time, almost a year ago, but after listening to “Right Hand Hi” earlier this summer, I have to admit I was disappointed. Yeah, it had a more danceable beat, but it was annoyingly repetitive, and hardly lived up to any of my fave Kid Sis songs. So perhaps I was too quick to judge having only heard one track, but the verdict still stands. The production is flawless (hello, A-Trak is her boyfriend), but a lot of the rhymes are lackluster, and at times her singing could really use some help. This is especially painful for me, because I really want to love Kid Sister, there are so few females holding it down in the hip-hop industry, and even fewer that can write a whole song about nails that is actually worthwhile. I kind of wish that she had taken even more time crafting these songs, as I know that she is capable of greatness (In my mind, “Get Fresh” is immaculate). That being said, I was generally unimpressed by most of the previously unreleased tracks on the album, except for “54321″, which is delightfully catchy. Kid Sister still has a place in my heart, but she’ll have to pull out something amazing with her next album to truly win it back.

WHO WE ARE

Dipped in Dollars (D.I.D.) is the brainchild of Chief and Danger. While attending a crazy liberal arts college in Vermont, we realized our mutual love of righteous dance music, art, and the people behind them. D.I.D. exists to share this love with you and hopefully turn you on to something new. More about the brains behind the brawn, here.

This site exists to promote artists, if you hear something you like, think about throwing the artist(s) a few dollars, buy an album, go to a concert, show them you care. If any artists or official people want us to take any of our links down, just shoot us an email and we'll take care of it. Happy Listening!
