If you were to ask me for my favorite album of the decade, it’d definitely be
The Avalanches‘
Gimix (which was eventually chopped down to
Since I Left You). The album hit at a time where I could only find music through the radio/MTV, and I’d never heard anything like it. It’s still the standard by which I define other sample clad artists (like
Air France,
Lemon Jelly and
Quiet Village). I guess I’ll always be stuck waiting for their eternally suspended sophomore release.
Javelin comes very close to rekindling the
highlife aspect of
The Avalanches‘ sound. This Brooklyn-via-Providence duo better keep stomping around for a second album or I’ll melt. Bonus
The Very Best remix.
Javelin – Lindsay Brohan
Javelin – Intervales Theme
The Very Best – Julia (Javelin remix)
