° Monsters of Folk °

A friend emailed me this Monsters of Folk track, and I had never heard of them prior. According to allmusic, they “were formed around the talents of indie rock giants Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes), M. Ward (She & Him), and Jim James (My Morning Jacket)“. Outrageous, Monsters of Folk indeed, how cheeky. Though I’m not the biggest fan of some of these guys out of this context, this song is rocking my world, as it’s hardly folk and leans more towards indie rock with an electronic kick. So I’m late to the game, this album has been out since September, but better late than never I say.

° Beach House, “Teen Dream” °

I am obsessed with Beach House, and I’m okay with that. I have been waiting for this day for a while, ever since I heard whispers about Teen Dream in the fall. I had remarkably high expectations about this album, but it was so hyped that I initially became wary. Then I heard “Norway” and “10 Mile Stereo”, I felt comfortable and relieved that they wouldn’t be letting me down, but I just grew all the more anxious. Well it’s out, I’ve heard it, I love it (you could have seen that one coming), and here’s why. Devotion was an album that didn’t hit me all at once, it took repeated listens to really wrap mind around it. Teen Dream is noticeably more upbeat, yet still haunting, hypnotic, but definitely loveable. There is a new version of “Used to Be”, which does have its charms, but I still prefer the single version. After already being familiar with a few tracks, one of the hardest initial hits was “Silver Soul”. It was as if I was caught in a relentless wave of sound. Rarely is there a silent moment with Beach House, sounds are constantly blossoming and evolving, repetitively building to that epic release. As of right now, “Lover of Mine” is the track I am most addicted to, love at first listen. This entire album has such a cohesive sound, and is worth listening to for the quality of Legrand’s vocals alone. I could go on and on, but the truth is you’ll just have to listen and decide for yourself.

° Dibiase °

Dibiase is a producer/mc from Los Angeles who makes some wicked beats. Named after a pretty hilarious wrestler, he’s been getting a lot of attention for his 8-bit laden rhythms and performances with D.I.D. favorites Ras G, The Gaslamp Killer and Flying Lotus. Check out his recent recent collaboration with PUDGE.

° Bullion mix for FACT °

I just received an email about a new mix Bullion made for the people over at FACT Magazine. Lots of Krautrock, afro-funk, avant-garde electronics and dreamy 70s rock going down that really highlights how exceptional he is as a DJ. It’s only going to be available for three weeks, so head on over to FACT and check it out.

WHO WE ARE

Dipped in Dollars (D.I.D.) is the brainchild of Chief and Danger. While attending a crazy liberal arts college in Vermont, we realized our mutual love of righteous dance music, art, and the people behind them. D.I.D. exists to share this love with you and hopefully turn you on to something new.

This site exists to promote artists, if you hear something you like, think about throwing the artist(s) a few dollars, buy an album, go to a concert, show them you care. If any artists or official people want us to take any of our links down, just shoot us an email and we'll take care of it.

If you wish to contact the team, send mail to did@dippedindollars.com or for individual addresses, check here. (But please not both, duplicates are a drag)
