This article was written by Crimson of Comanche. Sebastien Tellier is one of my all time favorites. He blends quality production with varied influences to create something original and accessible. You know are truly enjoying a song when nearly four minutes of a delicate yet spunky bass, piano, and drum vamp passes you by in a timeless fashion. Listen to La Ritournelle (with beats by Tony Allen) and you will get the vibe. From his most recent album Sexuality, the synth driven Look fully demonstrates Sebastien’s expertise in mood creation. The slowly evolving, softly syncopated chord changes move at a perfect pace. In a diversion from his usual up-tempo feel, the song Universe–compiled in the soundtrack from Daft Punk’s flim Electroma–features acoustic guitar, tremolo vocals, and antiquated orchestral lines to fully showcase Tellier’s stylistic range. Enjoy.
