° Lupe Fiasco, “What You Want” °

So I know I’m late on the most recently leaked Lupe Fiasco track. It’s so simple and laid back that except for that undeniable voice, I almost didn’t recognize it as Lupe. It’s allegedly unfinished, but I’m down with the raw nature of this track, and it’s probably my favorite thing I’ve heard off of Lasers thus far.

° Daedelus, “Order Of The Golden Dawn” °

This is going to be a great Spring from Brainfeeder. Flying LotusCosmogramma drops this May and DaedelusRighteous Fists of Harmony will be out on March 23. The album is a soundtrack to the Boxer Rebellion (Fight Club, anyone?), and I couldn’t be happier. The man behind one of the best songs of all time needs to be known around the world. Catch Daedelus on tour with D.I.D. favorites Nosaj Thing and Jogger all February.

° Time Traveling, West African Cosmos °

We’ve been slacking on our blasts to the past, so I’ll try to do at least one a month from now on. Before the American populous completely consumes another sub-genre of world music (I’m looking at you, Afropop), you must check out West African Cosmos. I stumbled upon this album back in 2002 (long before I’d heard of Kuti, Ade or Obey) and was blown away by every song on the record. I’ve tried to find info on the band on multiple occasions, but my research has only yielded a year (1976) and collaborations with the legendary Touré Kunda. Wuyé Wuyé is my favorite Afrobeat song of all time. Every aspect of the jam is perfect, and the horn solo at the end kills me every time. The actual album is pretty hard to find nowadays, but I’m sure there are digital copies floating around somewhere.

WHO WE ARE

Dipped in Dollars (D.I.D.) is the brainchild of Chief and Danger. While attending a crazy liberal arts college in Vermont, we realized our mutual love of righteous dance music, art, and the people behind them. D.I.D. exists to share this love with you and hopefully turn you on to something new.

This site exists to promote artists, if you hear something you like, think about throwing the artist(s) a few dollars, buy an album, go to a concert, show them you care. If any artists or official people want us to take any of our links down, just shoot us an email and we'll take care of it.

If you wish to contact the team, send mail to did@dippedindollars.com or for individual addresses, check here. (But please not both, duplicates are a drag)
