• Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, “I Learned The Hard Way” •

Ever since I first heard Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, I was smitten. I have a serious nostalgia for this sound, which seems a bit silly as I wasn’t even alive when this music was at its height, but boy do I wish I was. The songwriting was so clean, phenomenal vocals, catchy hooks and a full band, heaven. I was excited to hear their second release in its entirety, especially after hearing “Better Things”, which is downright addictive. The rest of the album is to be expected, ups and downs, pop gems and mournful ballads, but it is always a delight. I’m bringing you the ones that stood out to me initially, the most accessible pop items, but you should listen to the album all the way through, it will transport you to another time, one I wish music had never left.
