• Must Listen: Mount Kimbie – Crooks & Lovers •

This article was written by Vikrant over at Indie Bandwagon, who’s going to be doing a little writing for us from now on.

Already branded as vanguards and pitted with artists like Flying Lotus and Actress, Mount Kimbie – the duo of Dominic Maker and Kai Campos have like their contemporaries mastered the art of arresting the listeners with the bending and breaking sonic landscapes into progressive, minimal, mutating and surreptitiously evolving beats. Crooks & Lovers is a record that is full to the brim with ideas that look very ordinary, but when structured by the oracular duo, yield such wonderful designs that one can simply just nod and bob their head in approval. Much like Cosmogramma, the tracks are all disparate with some elements glimmering and building the hooks while others are filled with boisterous sounds. Each track feels like a breath of fresh air and stands out in its own way. Mount Kimbie are clearly not prejudiced to any genre and have created a stunning debut release.
