Star Slinger is a producer from the UK who was first known for his dance hits in the late ’00′s and has since progressed to crafting eclectic hip hop beats. Most of his jams are pretty heavy on the Dilla influence, but I’ve been impressed with the way he’s able to integrate his influences into the glitch-driven structure. His recent works with Teams highlight this versatility. There are just way too many gems to throw out in one article, so you’ll have to grab the rest of these beats on his website.

I’ve been thinking a lot about an article written by True Genius Requires Insanity‘s Marcus Dowling for Mishka in which he talks at length about the recession’s impact on our notions of success. It’s clear that 2K10 will be remembered for the free music (along with the demise of chillwave), and publications like the Indie Bible have become even more vital to survive in this climate. You must invest in the artists you want to hear more from in the future, and if what Marcus said is true, then the city of DC is heavily invested in Wale‘s career in the majors. This Freaks remix is making me dive into the rest of what he’s been talking about.

° VIDEO: Blackbird Blackbird – “Pure” °

We’ve been watching Blackbird Blackbird climb since smokeDONTsmoke starting writing about him back in April, and this video for Pure is a leap. Isaac Bauman‘s direction is a little seizure inducing at times, but his imagery is so compelling that it’s worth the headache. Double Denim is splitting the single with Paopao for their first release, and it’s definitely worth your dollars.
