Clive Tanaka y su orquesta only came to my attention recently, and I know that this is a little late (because a few months renders you irrelevant, naturally), but this album, Jet Set Siempre No 1, has completely taken over my week. Having already glimpsed the album cover, you know where this is going, and at this point I needn’t overstate my obvious obsession with music that reminds me of summer. Listening to this album is like taking that much needed trip to the beach. Remember those, beaches? Sorry, winter really got to me this year. I had this delightful collection of songs on constant repeat during my numerous flights (as well as hours spent in airports) down to Texas for SXSW (more on that later), and naturally it hit me. This is music designed to be listened to on an airplane. Combining laid-back beach vibes with a disco influence, listeners are transported on a journey through the use of synths, sea sounds, and steel drums. Traveling from Side A :: For Dance to Side B :: For Romance is a delightful transition, the pulsing beats fade away into the background to be replaced by guitars and violins, ever slowing down to settle into a comfortable love. This album is irresistible: buy it here for $5, listen to it in order, then come fly with me.
