° VIDEO: Stephen Farris – “Orange Mellow” °

The latest from Houston’s Stephen Farris is looking and sounding hot. The video for Orange Mellow makes me think of Emergency Broadcast Network put to some resounding low-end rhythms, and the two elements fit perfectly. You can sense parallel techniques present in his visual and audio splicing. Both of these tracks demonstrate further development in Stephen Farris‘ ear catching capacity for flavorful sampling, beat manufacturing, and overall musical sensibility.

° Time Traveling: The Whispers °

Chief and I have been jamming to this video all week. Led by the twin Scott brothers, The Whispers were an R&B sensation with a chart topping tenure dating from the mid 1960s through the late 1980s. Keep On Loving Me demonstrates the beauty of simplicity, both through video and sound. I love the midrange tempo, spacious layering and smooth vocals, and the hot dance moves are classic. I’m rooting for the backing member in the red jacket.

° Daedelus – “Sew, Darn, Mend” °

The man behind one of my all time favorite albums released another LP through Ninja Tune yesterday, and Sew, Darn, Mend is one of my favorite cuts from the record. The track euphorically unfolds around a single melody, showcasing Daedelus‘ ability to create exceptional music. Purchase a copy for yourself and check it out.

° Teams – Dxys Xff °

It was nearly a year ago when I first heard Teams’ splice-pop track Anml Life, and it is interesting hearing the progression in Dxys Xff. Through this recent LP release Teams‘ sound expands both in breadth and depth. Stunts in particular showcases some groovy, down tempo pitch-splashing. Check out the entire album here.

WHO WE ARE

Dipped in Dollars (D.I.D.) is the brainchild of Chief and Danger. While attending a crazy liberal arts college in Vermont, we realized our mutual love of righteous dance music, art, and the people behind them. D.I.D. exists to share this love with you and hopefully turn you on to something new.

This site exists to promote artists, if you hear something you like, think about throwing the artist(s) a few dollars, buy an album, go to a concert, show them you care. If any artists or official people want us to take any of our links down, just shoot us an email and we'll take care of it.

If you wish to contact the team, send mail to did@dippedindollars.com or for individual addresses, check here. (But please not both, duplicates are a drag)
