It seems like the name of the game for some of the best contemporary producers is breadth of style. It has never been easier to explore and utilize vast amounts of original source material, and as a result artists are now able to pioneer new sounds and aesthetics by combining specific musical elements as they please. Some of the coolest music is born through this approach, and Letherette offers us a pretty good case in point. With a scattered assemblage of B-sides and unreleased material, Letherette‘s dynamic handling of production techniques, pointed genre blending, and incorporation of solid influences has caught my ear over the last few months. EP 2 offers this in a wonderful display with 6 solid tracks that come of as displays of potential in a variety of genres, serving as distinct, hypothetical gateways to several different pathways that Letherette could head down with future releases. For readers who have not yet checked out the Wolverhampton duo, EP 2 would be a great place to start.
