Holy shit, Mouse on Mars are releasing their first album in six years! I’m kind of young (but maybe old by most blogger’s standards), but Radical Connector and Rost Pocks were a crucial part of my electronica education. It is safe to say that they were an essential building block for the electronic music that we know today, and rather than a sad comeback album, this is a glistening triumph. The video for “Polaroyced” puts an instant smile on my face, and leaves me with the desire to watch it on repeat. The magical set of tracks that is Parastrophics is out now on Modeselektor’s (who unbelievably agreed to answer some interview questions for us last year) imprint, Monkeytown Records. Cop that shit.
I was obsessed with Beck in high school and I’ve come to love Charlotte Gainsbourg in all her many talents (Melancholia, what??), so obviously I loved “Paradisco”, one of their collaborative tracks. That love is only deepened by this remix from San Francisco’s Johnny Hwin. He pushes it oh so gently from light pop to the dancefloor. Compare it with the original below, and help show Johnny some love on beatport.
Sometimes I wonder why I still live in the states, as there’s so much fresh stuff coming out of London right now. Case and point, colo are a London based duo who informed us about their forthcoming debut EP, Midday Sun. “picture of you” is the lead track, filled with lush sounds and languid vocals. The video is cinematic, dark and mysterious, perfectly complimenting the track. After it was over, I felt myself longing for more, which is always a good sign. Midday Sun is out March 12 on Take Records, but for now, get a preview of the rest of the EP below.
The past two years I’ve made mixes to celebrate the joys of friend love (and beautiful music of course), and I’m at it again. This was meant to come to you on Valentine’s Day and “real life” pushed it back, but I think the theme is timeless. This is just a little token to thank you for being with us on this journey, and always remember, Danger Loves You. Tracklist: [...]
Dipped in Dollars (D.I.D.) is the brainchild of Chief and Danger. While attending a crazy liberal arts college in Vermont, we realized our mutual love of righteous dance music, art, and the people behind them. Along the way we were joined by Crimson and B.Darko. D.I.D. exists to share this love with you and hopefully turn you on to something new.
This site exists to promote artists, if you hear something you like, think about throwing the artist(s) a few dollars, buy an album, go to a concert, show them you care. If any artists or official people want us to take any of our links down, just shoot us an email and we'll take care of it.
If you wish to contact the team, send mail to did@dippedindollars.com or for individual addresses, check here. (But please not both, duplicates are a drag)
