• Substitute Teachers: Boerd •

Our latest Substitute Teachers mix comes from Stockholm-based electronic producer Boerd, whose Velocity EP has been a top release this summer. I asked the up-and-comer a few questions after listening to his mix.
Where does Boerd come from?
My real name is “Bård” which is a very uncommon name in Sweden. I chose “Boerd” as the name for my solo project, since it looks good and is pronounced like my real name – and because the letter å is not so good for the internet.
I’ve noticed a shift in your work on the Velocity EP than on the predominantly uptempo Slacker EP. What prompted the change?
The idea was to only make club-oriented music with my Boerd project. That only lasted for two EPs though, I just realized that I can’t just make one type of music. I listen to everything from classical to jazz and techno so it’s hard for my to only focus on one genre with my music. God knows what my next release will sound like.
What software are you using to make your music?
I work mainly with Reason 5.0 and my midi keyboard+pads. I also have a microphone and record stuff, piano and other instruments. Then I go home and usually add so many effects that you can’t even tell what I recorded from the beginning.
How did you become connected with the guys at Comorbird Records?
Johannes Arnesson (Owl Vision) has been a good friend of mine since we played at the same electroclub, many years ago. My band Stay Ali also remixed him, and vice-versa. He’s a great guy, I bet we would hang out a lot if we lived in the same city.
How would you describe the scene in Stockholm at the moment?
The scene for the type of music that I do is almost non-existent in Stockholm. It would be another situation if I was only producing very dance-friendly techno music or was DJing all the time, then I might’ve had a lot to do. Right now I mainly use the internet to reach out though, which I think works quite well.
What’s in this mix?
Most of them are from Nordic/Swedish bands and producers, though the mix starts of with Onra who is one of my favourites right now. The second song is something I’m working on myself right now, but it’s far from finished. The last tune is “Love Is Blue” by Klaus Wunderlich, the legendary organ player.
Any live shows coming up?
Not really, I had some stuff coming up in Stockholm but now I’m moving to Paris in two weeks so no more gigs in Stockholm. I will stay there for about 7 months to study classical music, and produce some new electronic stuff of course. Would be glad to do some shows in France though.
