Fade To Mind had me preview Fatima Al Qadiri‘s Desert Strike EP, which will be out everywhere later this month. The Brooklyn based composer has been at the top of the heap both conceptually and aesthetically since the release of Genre-Specific Xperience last year, and has named her latest EP after “Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf“, a top-down shooter based on Operation Desert Storm. Desert Strike begins right where GSX left off, with an excess of modal chants, horn echos and gun sounds that sonically pay homage to the militaristic futurism of early grime. “Desert Strike” and “War Games” stand out for me, which showcase her ability to work infectious melodies into a prophetic diaspora. Pre-order the album here before it’s official release on October 23.
