I’ve been falling behind on music lately, but luckily I know that any email from Avalon Emerson is bound to be filled with gems. “Horoscope” has been out for about a month now, and is true to her trademark sound, beautiful minimalism inspired by Detroit house. “Church of SoMa” is her newest track, which incorporates some slightly mysterious vocal samples and effortlessly entrances. Always enchanting, her latest tracks are available for free download through her soundcloud.

Thirty seconds after pressing play, I began to wonder what I had gotten myself into, but by the time the drums kicked in, I found myself hooked. This video from Phèdre is all over the place in terms of influence, and the track is what truly brings it together. Some of the vocals are reminiscent of Antony which naturally has me swooning. Watch and listen and decide for yourself.

I loved the first track I heard from XXYYXX, and thankfully I had the good sense to pick up his recently released self-titled album. The album’s featured samples read like a who’s who of 90s R&B in the best possible way. Many producers these days are sampling these former hits to follow the trend, but XXYYXX‘s execution is impeccable and gives new life to some older jams. It’s incredible to see someone so young showing deference to these classics. I’ve had this album on repeat for a few weeks now, and frankly there is nothing to not love. He is definitely a talent to watch, so keep your eyes and ears peeled. For now, grab the album for a low low price on his bandcamp.

My first introduction to Sweden’s Saturday, Monday was this incredible Lykke Li remix that got sent our way. He’s working on a full album, but has recently released a two track EP called The Fall | The Slow and Slopy Journey of Little Rhino. It is half deep and dark and half bright and springy, perfect as we transition into warmer days. “The Fall” is available for free via his facebook page.

Solar Bears just released another track from their forthcoming album. Everything we receive from them is a delight, but if this is your first introduction, be sure to warm up with their Substitute Teachers mix for us from last year.

The past two years I’ve made mixes to celebrate the joys of friend love (and beautiful music of course), and I’m at it again. This was meant to come to you on Valentine’s Day and “real life” pushed it back, but I think the theme is timeless. It’s been quite a while since I’ve heard anything from kuhrye-oo, but everything he makes is so fresh and well worth the wait. “Deep Drama Diva” is available for free via UNOnyc, and we’ve been promised that a full EP is coming soon. For now I’ll just soak this up.

Way back in 2010, I was deeply obsessed with all things light and bright, and disco infused pop filled my hard drive. I was reminded of those times this morning by this The Golden Pony remix of Savoir Adore. Their originals are usually a little bit deeper and darker, and I find this version refreshing. On this gloomy day in DC, I just can’t deny the pop brilliance, come join me.

Hopefully you guys know by now how much I appreciate a good music video. This one from OSYM is based on Kafka’s (genius) Metamorphosis. Apparently the track itself is also a tribute to Flying Lotus. You have to love all the respect being paid, so dive in.

As per usual, Avalon Emerson is bringing the house heat. This transition between winter and spring is simultaneously serene and exhilarating, and tracks like “Payoff (How to Think It, See It, and Feel It)” definitely help keep me on the more zen side of things. This track is fresh off the presses, so enjoy it while it’s hot!
