    LIVE: M83 & Active Child

The Friday before Halloween, I was lucky enough to get the chance to go out (in costume as Diana Ross) to see M83 and Active Child play the Black Cat. They’ve put out two of my favorite albums of the year, so the opportunity to see them on the same stage was not to be passed up. I’d seen Active Child once before, on his smaller tour with Com Truise, [...]

    LIVE: RJD2 & Icebird

Last night I was fortunate enough to catch RJD2 at the 9:30 Club here in DC, along with his newest collaborative effort with Aaron Livingston, Icebird (opening for yourself, how badass is that?). A not quite sold out, but still packed crowd made it out in the rain to bask in the music. With RJD2‘s electronic past, and a name like Icebird it’s easy to conjure up an image of [...]

    RJD2 @ 9:30

Admittedly, I’ve lost track of RJD2 since Since We Last Spoke (irony, anyone?), but before that I was seriously obsessed and am beyond excited to get the chance to see him live tomorrow night here in DC. He’s performing as himself, and also as a part of the collaborative effort Icebird. Grab tickets here, I’ll let you know how it goes.

  • LIVE: Toro Y Moi | Unknown Mortal Orchestra @ The Triple Rock
LIVE: Toro Y Moi | Unknown Mortal Orchestra @ The Triple Rock

Beachey wrote this one up for us. – Toro Y Moi and Unknown Mortal Orchestra stopped by Minneapolis last Sunday for a fantastic night of music. Both bands lived up to their hype, but UMO had a hold on the audience that Toro was just beginning to grasp. The Portland trio had relentless energy and surprisingly clean and tight chops for a band that lets fuzz and crackle dominate their [...]

  • Live: Active Child + Chad Valley
Live: Active Child + Chad Valley

On a tour spanning most of the states, DID favorite Active Child stopped in Minneapolis last Saturday to deliver a wonderfully enchanting set. Pat Grossi’s trio brought songs from his recent release to 7th Street Entry with great command and expression, and the group’s sound perfectly filled the space. It was great to see how these guys could bring a primarily electronic-based studio production to life through great musicianship and [...]

  • Pacific Festival 2011

I am beyond stoked to be heading out west soon to Pacific Festival. The line-up has gotten even more ridiculous (in the best of ways) with the addition of Snoop Dogg and combined with so many of our favorites it’s bound to be a fun time. The organizers have compiled this 24 track sampler to promote their artists, and it’s a nice little package that should tide you over until [...]

    Pacific Festival 2011

Yowza, what a line-up. This year marks the second annual Pacific Festival, founded in part by Steve Aoki. If last year at Electric Zoo taught me anything, it’s that the second year of a festival is the time to make your move, the event will have grown in significance without becoming overrun. This video recap of last year, looks hella fun, and I’m not about to miss out this time. [...]

  • Live: Twin Shadow @ The Triple Rock
Live: Twin Shadow @ The Triple Rock

This review was written by Beachey, who’s going to be covering a lot of the shows we go to in Minneapolis. Twin Shadow played the sold-out Triple Rock on Monday night, handily upstaging their headlining tour-mates The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. Mastermind George Lewis, Jr. and his backing band are performing like veterans, and they’ve hardly been playing together for a year. Producer Chris Taylor worked wonders on [...]

  • Live: Holy Ghost! + Cut Copy
Live: Holy Ghost! + Cut Copy

I’ve started fancying some of Holy Ghost!‘s recent work and am a huge fan of Cut Copy‘s Bright Like Neon Love, so I waddled my way down to First Avenue last Saturday to check out a pair of bands well fit for each other. Plus, I am always curious to see how electronic/dance bands present their material live. The two groups managed to mobilize a robust swarm of dancing locals [...]
