Glowing tropical samples thrown over sparse beats is keeping my mind off of the summer heat, and his DOOM remix is so chill. This summer is really cruising by. Wax Tailor is the alias of hip hop producer Jean-Christophe Le Saoût. Hailing from Paris, his three alb ums are filled with intelligent samples and exceptional beats. Tales Of The Forgotten Melodies is one of my favorite albums of all time. Growing up on Dj Shadow/RJD2/The Avalanches, this was a real find in my final semester of College. He’s still touring from his latest release, In The Mood For Life, and will hopefully be releasing more material soon.

The boys from Beat Connection, a Seattle based duo, recently sent over their debut EP, Surf Noir. These eight tracks are light and summery with a heavy dose of nostalgia, and are perfectly reminiscent of the sand and surf. When classic artists update their sound they often run the risk of losing the originality that made them special. That’s not at all the case on Fever, a track from George Clinton‘s latest release. It’s a cover of a classic 1950s song and features guest vocals by Sly Stone. The subtle autotune sounds totally at home and reminds us how much both George and Sly are an inspiration to today’s musicians. Today’s pop music is only just catching up to the sonic experiments these mad scientists have been pumping out for years. Fever is a enlightening lesson for modern musicians, bridging the gap between three distinct musical eras.
