Avalon Emerson – “Shawty Rock”

February 22nd, 2012
>by Danger 2 Comments
I don’t mention it a ton on here, but I’m borderline obsessed with The-Dream, so when I got an email from Avalon Emerson about her new track that samples “Shawty Is a 10″, I was obviously ecstatic. “Shawty Rock” takes Terius (first-name basis, you know) down to his most basic level and slides his vocals over the most relaxed beats. This is way more laid back than “Warm Up Love”, [...]
Young Magic – “Night In The Ocean” (S.Maharba Serpent Love Song Remix)
-
February 22nd, 2012
There is a translucent quality to S. Maharba‘s rework of Young Magic‘s “Night In The Ocean”, contrasting and enlivening the static nature of the original. Emotively deep washes of reverb enhance YM‘s vocals, further defining Maharba with these hues of soft focus. I’m also loving Young Magic‘s use of visuals from The Color Of Pomegranates (which you must check out) in their video for “Drawing Down The Moon”. Melt was [...]
LOCAL: Nacey – “Monte Carlo”
-
February 22nd, 2012
DC’s Nacey is one third of the collective DJ force that is Nouveau Riche, in addition to being a solid producer in his own right. His latest orignal track, “Monte Carlo” is a mega jam, and I’ve had it on repeat since my first listen yesterday. Apparently 2012 will be the year that we get a Nacey EP, and for that I am grateful. If you’re in DC be sure [...]

Premiere: Yalls – “Settle Down” (Monster Rally Remix)
-
February 21st, 2012
Gold Robot is releasing the inaugural 7″ of Yalls today, which is a unique mix of psych poppy vocals and straight forward instrumentation. Monter Rally lures the Bay Area producer to the tropics in this rework, wrapping his iridescent vocals with the loop heavy atmospheres we’ve all come to know and love. You can purchase the Fantasy 7″ on bone-colored vinyl here. Settle Down (Monster Rally Remix)

VIDEO: Ambassadeurs – “M.O.P.E.”
-
February 21st, 2012
Yet another gem from the treasure chest that is Feel Good Lost. This track by Ambassadeurs was a crucial jam last year, and is still hitting hard to this day. It is embellished with serene kaleidoscopic visuals that emphasize the subtle gorgeousness of the track. Be prepared to fall in love, again and again and again.
Lapti – “Cruise”
-
February 20th, 2012
Lapti is on a Lone kick with “Cruise”, working exuberant pitch-shifted synths into a fantastic dance number. His recent collaboration with Jonwayne made it on the Kutmah-curated Worldwide Family Volume II, which will be out on Gilles Peterson‘s Brownswood imprint March 26.
Motion Picture Actress – “Natural Ghost”
-
February 20th, 2012
Motion Picture Actress‘ “Natural Ghost” is littered with field recordings and thick ambience, displaying a prime talent for gorgeous compositions and arrangments in this title track from his forthcoming debut EP. The tune kind of forks when the bebop samples come in, but exquisitely progress once the rhythms return. You can catch him live opening for Balam Acab in Brisbane this Thursday.
Huxley – Let It Go
-
February 17th, 2012
Let It Go by Huxley is a very catchy quintessential house music track. It’s rather straight forward: repetition of one phrase and heavy bass. Without a doubt one of the best house tracks of 2012 thus far. The song has only been out for 23 days and already House producer, Eats Everything has created a brilliant remix. Check them both out as well as the music video.
