Thirty seconds after pressing play, I began to wonder what I had gotten myself into, but by the time the drums kicked in, I found myself hooked. This video from Phèdre is all over the place in terms of influence, and the track is what truly brings it together. Some of the vocals are reminiscent of Antony which naturally has me swooning. Late last week Danish DJ/producer August Fenger AKA ELOQ dropped a release on bandcamp for the free.99. It’s full of some very interesting bass heavy tracks that he has created over the past couple of years and have been unreleased prior to now. The one song that stands out to me is track 1 “Last Night A Random Girl (She Saved My Life).” ELOQ incorporates some auto-tuning and synthesizer, giving it a Kanye West vibe. Bibio has taken a break from his instructional video series with “Saturday Evening Choppage” and “Sunday Evening Filter House”. I remember reading an interview around the time Ambivalence Avenue came out in which he discussed having a vault of originals in every kind of style, and these videos are making me real jealous of anyone who’s been able to hear what else he’s got in there. We’re still listening to Mind Bokeh/K is for Kelson/everything else he’s done, and I hope you are as well.

52nd Street were a boogie group from Manchester that put out a steady stream of releases in the 80s. They never were able to surpass the success of their 1985 single, “Tell Me How It Feels”, but their catalog is filled with so many gems that still influence the sounds we’re hearing today.

I was given the opportunity to preview the debut EP from up and coming Malmö producer Bam Spacey, and Ceremony Recordings just went live with his video for “Taigan”. Bam‘s subtle pop inflections fit in perfectly with the sounds we’ve fallen in love on Cascine, and “Taigan” is a poignant introduction to his halcyon debut. Land will be out on the 22nd.

Streets of Beige and You’ll Soon Know will be coming together for a historic night at The Old Blue Last this Saturday with additional support from Paul White, Mo Kolours, Chesslo Junior, and Yukka. There is no cover at the door so you’d better be there.
