Crimson has been sending me some insane beats from Kavinsky. I started listening to his music when I was working in Belgium a few years ago, and it’s been great seeing his following grow around the world. This Parisian makes a visceral sound that’s similar to the productions of D.I.D. favorites SebastiAn, Danger, and Daft Punk. I love the bounce of this Night Call remix, especially the vocals from CSS frontwoman Lovefoxxx. I’m perpetually mystified how no one has heard of any of these guys in the states. Breakbot should be crossing the country by now. Night Call drops via Record Makers on March 22.

Update: Taken down. Enjoy the original.

Breakbot, Uffie, Feadz, DJ Mehdi, Busy P, A-Trak and Justice all at one party? The Ed Banger Seven show at Terminal 5 was epic. I recently watched this interview Busy P made before the artists on Ed Banger influenced parties around the world, and I wonder if he was thinking about those comments while he ripped into the sold-out crowd at Terminal 5. Highlights of the show included sets by Breakbot + A-Trak and Busy P receiving a white cowboy hat signed by the entire Ed Banger crew. I’m definitely going to be back next year. In case you’ve also missed my cooze over the last few months, Breakbot’s debut EP dropped yesterday.

Uffie – Pop The Glock (DJ Mehdi Edit)

Busy P – Rainbow Man

Breakbot – Valentines Day Mixtape

It’s that time of year again, Valentine’s Day, the holiday that divides us all. A year ago today I made a mix for my friends to celebrate the joys of friend love (and beautiful music of course), and I’m at it again, only now I have a lot more people to share this with. So make the most of today, and never fear, regardless of whether or not you’re in a relationship, always remember, Danger Loves You. Download the mix here.

I was just sent a remix Breakbot did for Air in support of Oxfam America’s Haiti recovery effort. I love how Breakbot is able to swallow each artist he remixes and mold them into his own aesthetic. I just throw all of his music into one playlist and cruise.

I am very ready to see Breakbot in two weeks. This new track is excellent. His first offical EP on Ed Banger drops on Valentines Day.

Breakbot just dropped this gem, and I’m so happy that he’s been able to retain his sound on Ed Banger. This jam is so smooth. I’m really excited to hear where things are going. If my slew of Breakbot posts haven’t already convinced you to buy his music/see him live/throw him some $$$, then this should hopefully seal the deal.

Breakbot – Make You Mine

Breakbot
As if my love for Breakbot and Pacific! isn’t already extremely apparent, someone was kind enough to throw me another exceptional remix Breakbot did for Pacific!. I wasn’t too into the original Pacific! jam, but Breakbot was able to take all the best parts of the original and drown them in his signature sounds. This will definitely be played non-stop during my eight hours of flights to the Best Coast.

If there is any lesson I’ve taken away from my top remixes of ‘09, it’s that someone on the internet will always be better at mixing your music. This was a dangerous year in terms of producers finding credibility through remixing, and I wonder where things will be by this time next year. Hope you enjoy these remixes as much as I have.

10. Nosaj Thing [Flying Lotus - Camel]
Flying Lotus holds a very special place in my heart.  This remix is perfect. Made even more perfect of DJ Cerebral Paulson’s mash up with Beck’s Where It’s At.

Flying Lotus – Camel (Nosaj Thing Remix)

9. Death to the Throne [Daft Punk - Technologic]

Listening to this song just makes me feel so good. There isn’t much in terms of chord progressions, but the changes are perfect. Everything sounds so dangerous.

Daft Punk – Technologic (Death To The Throne Remix)

8. Toro Y Moi [Washed Out - Feel It All Around]

I’ll never forget the first time I heard Washed Out’s Feel It All Around but Toro Y Moi’s remix is a great reinterpretation of one of my favorite jams of the year. Washed Out is pretty apprehensive of letting anyone comprehend what he’s singing about, but I’m happy this remix let’s everyone know what’s going down.

Washed Out – Feel It All Around (Toro Y Moi Remix)

7. CFCF [Health - Before Tigers]
I’ve honestly never heard anything that’s sounded like this. This song is so much better than the original and highlights legit CFCFis in terms of production. You really must read Danger’s review of Continent.

Health – Before Tigers (CFCF Remix)

6. Chico Love [Phoenix - Lisztomania]

Danger’s review describes this better than I ever could. 8 minutes of excellence.

Phoenix – Lisztomania (Chico Love Remix)

5. Neon Indian [Grizzly Bear - Cheerleader]

Vekatimest was one of my favorite albums of the year, and Neon Indian was able to recreate Grizzly Bear’s sound in a way that made me yearn for more.

Grizzly Bear – Cheerleader (Neon Indian ‘Studio 6669′ Remix)

4. Flying Lotus [Lil Wayne - A Milli]

Flying Lotus + Lil Wayne is a combination I’d love to see live. Too fucking good. Praying they’ll collaborate in a studio someday and create something I’d dream to hear.

Lil Wayne – A Milli (Flying Lotus Remix)

3. Lissvik [Fever Ray - When I Grow Up]

This remix of Fever Ray made Lissvik one of my favorite producers of all time, and I can’t wait to hear what he’ll make next.

Fever Ray – When I Grow Up (Version by Lissvik)

2. Phaseone [Animal Collective - Daily Routine]

White Collar Crime threw this producer from Missouri on the map, and I wonder how this remix will influence his first official release. Definitely one of my favorite songs of the year.

Animal Collective – Daily Routine (Phaseone Remix)

1. Breakbot [Digitalism - Apollogize/Pacific! - Runway to Elsewhere]

For me, this was the year of Breakbot. Everything he makes fits into the same aesthetic and I can’t believe Ed Banger still hasn’t released his LP.  2010 will be the year of the Bot. Apolo-Gize is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Pacific! – Runaway To Elsewhere (Breakbot Remix)

Digitalism – Apollo-Gize (Breakbot ‘Hypnotoad’ Extended remix)

Breakbot
After years of searching for compressed synths weaved under a tight beat, it has been interesting to see Ed Banger become the standard for popular electronic/house music. I helped organize an electronic music festival in Belgium a few years ago, and although the Ed acts that played were solid and entertaining, many people were wondering how long the label would actually last. Breakbot seems to be exactly what they needed. While other acts such as Daft Punk and Justice virtually electro-ize some of their favorite dance tracks from the 70’s, Breakbot takes those old influences and creates something new. He is also dangerous at remixing tracks. I usually only throw out three tracks at a time, but there is too much gold to go around.

Breakbot – Summerparty

Digitalism – Apollo-Gize (Breakbot Hypnotoad Mix)

Yuksek – Extraball (Breakbot Remix)

Pacific! – Runaway To Elsewhere (Breakbot Remix)

WHO WE ARE

Dipped in Dollars (D.I.D.) is the brainchild of Chief and Danger. While attending a crazy liberal arts college in Vermont, we realized our mutual love of righteous dance music, art, and the people behind them. D.I.D. exists to share this love with you and hopefully turn you on to something new. More about the brains behind the brawn, here.

This site exists to promote artists, if you hear something you like, think about throwing the artist(s) a few dollars, buy an album, go to a concert, show them you care. If any artists or official people want us to take any of our links down, just shoot us an email and we'll take care of it. Happy Listening!
