Dipped in Dollars is proud to present our February Mix of the Month, where we ask an up-and-coming artist to present us with a mix/mixtape that will allow us to gain better perspective of their process/show us what we can expect to hear from them in the future. Indian Summer is a little mix I made featuring some of my favorite songs we’ve been throwing out over these last few months. It doesn’t feature any music you’ll hear on the upcoming Comanche LP, but it’s a solid example of what you’ll be hearing from our live sets. I tried to hold off on too many special effects and let the songs speak for themselves. Expect more Comanche singles/remixes/mixtapes throughout the year. Flying Lotus holds a very special place in my heart.  This remix is perfect. Made even more perfect of DJ Cerebral Paulson‘s mash up with Beck‘s Where It’s At.

9. Death to the Throne [Daft Punk - Technologic]

Listening to this song just makes me feel so good. There isn’t much in terms of chord progressions, but the changes are perfect. Everything sounds so dangerous.

8. Toro Y Moi [Washed Out - Feel It All Around]

I’ll never forget the first time I heard Washed Out’s Feel It All Around but Toro Y Moi‘s remix is a great reinterpretation of one of my favorite jams of the year. Washed Out is pretty apprehensive of letting anyone comprehend what he’s singing about, but I’m happy this remix let’s everyone know what’s going down.

7. CFCF [Health - Before Tigers]
I’ve honestly never heard anything that’s sounded like this. This song is so much better than the original and highlights legit CFCFis in terms of production. You really must read Danger‘s review of Continent.

5. Neon Indian [Grizzly Bear - Cheerleader]

Vekatimest was one of my favorite albums of the year, and Neon Indian was able to recreate Grizzly Bear‘s sound in a way that made me yearn for more.

4. Flying Lotus [Lil Wayne - A Milli]

Flying Lotus + Lil Wayne is a combination I’d love to see live. Too fucking good. Praying they’ll collaborate in a studio someday and create something I’d dream to hear.

3. Lissvik [Fever Ray - When I Grow Up]

This remix of Fever Ray made Lissvik one of my favorite producers of all time, and I can’t wait to hear what he’ll make next.

2. Phaseone [Animal Collective - Daily Routine]

White Collar Crime threw this producer from Missouri on the map, and I wonder how this remix will influence his first official release. Definitely one of my favorite songs of the year.

1. Breakbot [Digitalism - Apollogize/Pacific! - Runway to Elsewhere]

For me, this was the year of Breakbot. Everything he makes fits into the same aesthetic and I can’t believe Ed Banger still hasn’t released his LP.  2010 will be the year of the Bot. Apolo-Gize is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Ever since my initial introduction to CFCF, I have just been falling more and more in love. His latest album was one of my most highly anticipated this fall. It was really difficult to choose which songs I liked the best, because the whole album really reads more as a set than a collection of individual tracks. I found myself listening to it straight through repeatedly, and I think that’s really the way it works best, as a whole. The entire ride is a series of ups and downs, moments of dancing followed by ones of introspection. For me, this album couldn’t have come at a more perfect time, it reads “autumn” through and through. Listening to it is a remarkably calming experience, one that I think everyone needs to have.

So I’ve been listening to CFCF nonstop for the past week or so, trying to write a review of his latest album (sometimes even harder to write a rave than a neg review, oh no, is that a spoiler?). Anyhow, Chairlift immediately follows CFCF in my library, and in the buzz that was “Bruises”, I nearly ignored all other songs by them. Well now, I’ve been listening to “Planet Health” involuntarily on repeat, and now it has become a choice to listen to it again and again. What a phenomenal song, that I overlooked for nearly a year. It’s pure catchy, blissful pop. Plus the lyrics contain some fire safety tips, beauty all around!

I don’t know much about CFCF except that he’s from Montréal and he’s awesome. I fell in love with his track, “You Hear Colours” earlier this spring upon a recommendation from a friend, but now I come to you with a Memory Cassette remix as well. Very chill, otherworldly, and beautiful.
