We’re very excited and honored to be presenting this mixtape (alongside Mostly Junk Food and Potholes in My Blog) by one of our favorite musicians, the wonder that is Datahowler. He’s crafted this one in honor of the heatwave/drought that Texas experienced this summer from which they are just now recovering. In his own original work he draws from a myriad of influences, so it’s only fitting that this would be an eclectic bundle of joy. More than just a mix, it’s an explorative journey of sound. Stream it through his bandcamp here, or grab the .zip of mp3s. He’s also nominated for two Dallas Observer Music Awards (Best New Artist and Best Electronic Artist) so show him some voting love here. A while back Flying Lotus dropped a great two and a half hour mix of his some of his favorite material. He has also been posting some excellent b-side material on his soundcloud that you should definitely check out. The mix spans across quite a few genres and plays out very differently from some of his mixes in the past. It is amazing what this guy can do on a whim, and it’s interesting to see how much his influences connect to his unique production style.

Warp just released the video for Flying Lotus‘ Kill Your Co-Workers, where a pleasant neighborhood parade is temporarily interrupted by a swarm of killer robots. This is one of the first videos where you can download the 3D character files, make your own version of the video, and upload your creation to FlyLo‘s vimeo channel. Must Listen favorite Flying Lotus will be departing from the world of Cosmogramma this fall and release the machine-driven Pattern+Grid World on Warp. Camera Day isn’t my favorite FlyLo beat of all time, but I’m hoping to see him live at Electric Zoo in a couple of weeks and hear how he integrates this into his live sound. If it’s anything like his set from Sonar, I’m sure I wont be disappointed. You can pre-order the EP here.

Flying Lotus has outdone himself yet again with this video for MmmHmm, one of my favorite tracks from Cosmogramma. I don’t know if this tops his video for Parisian Goldfish, but 8-bit chiefs questing for bud have won me over. You must listen to Cosmogramma.

Mono/Poly is a beat maker from California. He just dropped a mix for BTS Radio that has blown me away. I love what he did with some of my favorite tracks from Fool’s Gold, Toro Y Moi, Paul White, and Beach House. This is, thus far, my favorite mix of the year. Look out for Paramatma, his debut album, when it drops May 25th.

Flying Lotus‘ Cosmogramma is exceptional. Flying Lotus has grown into the position of being far more than a producer, influencing a far reaching strain of artists who are quickly making names for themselves on the scene. Cosmogramma flows like a piece of classical work, while staying true to the elements that defined Flylo‘s sound in the first place. Computer Face//Pure Being hits like it’s straight out of 1983. Guest appearances by Thom Yorke, Laura Darlington, and Thundercat come at just the right times. There are a couple of moments of the album that are a little too jarring for me, but given Flylo‘s ever expanding sphere of influence, I’m sure I’ll become more used to them in the next couple of years.
