Gold Panda sounds free and comfortable on his remix for Night Works, flirting with minimal house kicks and his signature high end sample stretches that take on an ethereal quality by the end. NZCA LINES has flipped it into a boom-bap ballad as well.

A plethora of the UK’s finest producers have focused their energy on creating minimal house for the time being, and Gold Panda‘s DJ-Kicks compilation showcases this astute collection of up-and-comers. Tracks from artists like Bok Bok, Zomby, and Matthewdavid are left mostly untouched and worked around a few of his own pieces – which make the most of his SM58 – and highlight how articulate Derwin can be on the dancefloor. I’m particularly enamored with the SND tune he threw into the mix. It’s the perfect accoutrement for any change of season, and can be purchased just about everywhere you can think of.

An Iceberg Hurled Northward Through Clouds is the first track on Gold Panda‘s Dj-Kicks compilation, and he shared the tune with his friends on facebook this morning. Iceberg echoes the deep house direction he’s taken since releasing MPB, with a myriad of bells and chimes swirled around soft kicks and poignant synths. You’ll have to wait a couple more weeks before you can get your hands on this release.

Gold Panda will be joining the ranks of Kode9 and Chromeo with the release of his very own DJ-Kicks compilation through Berlin’s !K7 Records this Halloween. We were sent the tracklist for the compilation, which features tracks from Matthewdavid, Bok Bok, and Zomby, in addition to a new original work that he’s kicking it off with. It’s crazy to think about how far he’s come since we first wrote about him two years ago, and you need to get yourself to his UK/US mini-tour next month if you’ll be in the area.

Gold Panda – MPB

Not sure if I can accurately describe how much we love Gold Panda, but perhaps if we just keep writing about him, you’ll get the idea. Never have I been so utterly transfixed by such a minimal album. Lucky Shiner took over my mind for a month and this video for the new single, “Marriage”, is taking over my day. There is perfect harmony between this track and the imagery, it is simple and subtle projecting images of pure happiness. It would be useless to describe to you what happens here, you just have to feel it.

So I’ve been holding on to this one for a while, it just fit so naturally into my rotation that it slipped my mind. Seams is an artist who was recently on tour with our mutual obsession, Gold Panda, which should give you a sense of his sound (field recordings, short samples and the like). His record, appropriately titled Tourist, is set to drop in a little less than three weeks, and chronicles a summer spent in Berlin. “Hung Markets” is the only taste we have to go on so far, and if it’s any indication of the whole, the record is sure to be a mesmerizing sonic exploration. Anyone that can have me repeatedly listening to a 7 minute instrumental is clearly onto something, and I look forward to being proven right. Grab the full quality file here.
