° Video: Mayer Hawthorne, “Maybe So, Maybe No” °

This Mayer Hawthorne track was the only thing on my mind all weekend. I don’t know how they do it, but Stones Throw is full of no fillers. Anyone who hasn’t picked up A Strange Arrangement is seriously missing out.

° Mix of the Month: Smax °

Dipped in Dollars is proud to present our April Mix of the Month, where we ask an up-and-coming artist to present us with a mix that will allow us to gain a better perspective of their process/show us what we can expect to hear from them in the future. Smax is a producer from Karachi, Pakistan who’s steadily making a name for himself in the United States. I asked him to create something raw and organic, and this is what showed up in my mailbox. ° Mayer Hawthorne °

mayer-hawthorne

Some wondrous person played me some of Mayer Hawthorne‘s music earlier this summer, but it wasn’t until recently that I could put a name to the sound. Meet the man of my dreams. In his 20s (for a little while anyway), and bringing back soul in a way so real it’s as if it was never gone. The late sixties/ early seventies are my dream decade, the clothes, the music the cars, ahh. I always wish that more people were still making music like this, and heart-shaped red vinyl? Positively phenomenal. Full-length comes out Sept. 9, and I am waiting with breath that is baited.

WHO WE ARE

Dipped in Dollars (D.I.D.) is the brainchild of Chief and Danger. While attending a crazy liberal arts college in Vermont, we realized our mutual love of righteous dance music, art, and the people behind them. D.I.D. exists to share this love with you and hopefully turn you on to something new.

This site exists to promote artists, if you hear something you like, think about throwing the artist(s) a few dollars, buy an album, go to a concert, show them you care. If any artists or official people want us to take any of our links down, just shoot us an email and we'll take care of it.

If you wish to contact the team, send mail to did@dippedindollars.com or for individual addresses, check here. (But please not both, duplicates are a drag)
