° Chief’s Top Remixes Of 2k10 °

Remixes have become vehicles of influence. They allow an artist to define themselves in relation to their contemporaries, as well as introduce their sound to a wider audience. My favorite artists seem to understand this concept, and this list of remixes embraces an evolution in the industry.

Honorable Mentions:

The XX – Basic Space (Mount Kimbie Remix)
This would have been my top remix of 2k9 if I had been aware of its existence.

The Beatles – And I Love Her (Allure Remix)

Solar Bears – Twin Stars (Lone Remix)

10. Kuhn – Quiet Nights (Young Montana Remix)

9. Deerhunter – Helicopter (Star Slinger Remix)

8. Baths – ♥ (Daedelus’ Snorelaxed Remix)

7. CFCF – It Was Never Meant To Be This Way (Games Remix)

6. Toro Y Moi – Fax Shadow (Shlohmo Remix)

° Classic: Miami Horror – Illumination °

I first heard Melbourne’s Miami Horror when Crimson sent over Holidays in the first draft of his mix of the month towards the end of August, and was intrigued to hear what a proper LP from this foursome would sound like. I thought Tame Impala was the only thing coming out of Australia this year, but Illumination has taken me by storm. The band’s electronic/nu disco sound is clearly influenced by fellow Aussies Midnight Juggernauts and Cut Copy, but frontman Ben Plant has produced twelve songs that transcend the works of his predecessors. Plant balances his prominence with contributions from Neon Indian, Kimbra, and MAI, which really help to elevate the release. I have a feeling a lot of the world will be sleeping on this album, so you’ve got to support these guys and purchase it wherever you can.

° Neon Indian – “Mind, Drips” (Bibio Remix) °

Neon Indian recently released a deluxe version of his genre-birthing Psychic Chasms, which features remixes by Toro Y Moi, Javelin, Body Language, and Bibio. I’m personally going crazy over the Bibio remix, but I’m sure everyone will find their own favorite. You can catch him on tour all fall.

° Neon Indian, “Sleep Paralysist” °

I’m a little fried form all of this chillwave I’ve been listening to recently, but this track deserves a mention. Neon Indian made Sleep Paralysist for Green Label Sound, and it’s exciting to hear how he’s developing his material. There are some really epic parts going down in this piece. It’ll be interesting to hear the type of stuff he’s producing a year from now.

WHO WE ARE

Dipped in Dollars (D.I.D.) is the brainchild of Chief and Danger. While attending a crazy liberal arts college in Vermont, we realized our mutual love of righteous dance music, art, and the people behind them. D.I.D. exists to share this love with you and hopefully turn you on to something new.

This site exists to promote artists, if you hear something you like, think about throwing the artist(s) a few dollars, buy an album, go to a concert, show them you care. If any artists or official people want us to take any of our links down, just shoot us an email and we'll take care of it.

If you wish to contact the team, send mail to did@dippedindollars.com or for individual addresses, check here. (But please not both, duplicates are a drag)
