° The Avalanches’ Second Album °

Some cred ible sources have been hinting about a sample-cleared sophomore release from The Avalanches due out this Fall, and I’m actually starting to believe that my nine years of waiting will be coming to an end. Many more people need to be excited about this, so I’m throwing out some of their harder to find jams that go deeper than the stuff you’ll hear on Gimix/Since I Left You. These guys are my favorite artists of all time, and I’m growing tired of this album never happening. I promise to release some kind of Avalanche-esque mix this October, regardless if the album is actually released.

If you were to ask me for my favorite album of the decade, it’d definitely be The Avalanches‘ Gimix (which was eventually chopped down to Since I Left You). The album hit at a time where I could only find music through the radio/MTV, and I’d never heard anything like it. It’s still the standard by which I define other sample clad artists (like Air France, Lemon Jelly and Quiet Village). I guess I’ll always be stuck waiting for their eternally suspended sophomore release. Javelin comes very close to rekindling the highlife aspect of The Avalanches‘ sound. This Brooklyn-via-Providence duo better keep stomping around for a second album or I’ll melt. Bonus The Very Best remix.
