Theophilus London is blasting off. We’ve been giving this pioneer of today’s electro-fueled urban pop movement (hahaha) lots of love over the last few months, and this video should hopefully get him farther out there. The premise of the video is a little simple, but judging from the flood of starry-eyed Theophilus lovers that have been emailing me about this since it dropped yesterday, I think people would watch a video of this guy doing anything. Looking forward to his upcoming release.
It’s no secret that here at Dipped in Dollars, we love us some Theophilus London, so I was pleased to hear about this nice little documentary on his blog. His mixtape is phenomenal, and if you haven’t heard it already, what are you waiting for?
The boys from Vampire Weekend have released their first single of their second album, due out early next year. Personally, I think that “Horchata” was better (and free to boot!), and that this is a pretty underwhelming single for an album that is still months away. My favorite part is the Christmas-bell like interlude, but it’s definitely not enough to carry the whole song. Check out the video, redeemable moments include bursts of confetti (cause who doesn’t love that?) and the part where they wear each other’s faces on the backs of their heads (actually pretty neat). Don’t take my word for it, listen and watch for yourself.
Vampire Weekend – Cousins
(mp3 removed by request)
Bonus! Because I’m obsessed with Theophilus London, here is a much more solid track with “cousins” in the title.
Couldn’t believe that this was a real thing when I first heard about it on the couch sessions, but it’s true. Chauffeur is comprised of Theophilus London, Sam Sparro (um, “Black and Gold” was my anthem for a while), and Mark Ronson, what a dream team. Initially I was overwhelmed by the variance in style contained in one track, but I quickly got over it. This is their only song so far (having debuted it at CMJ, check out the live video here). I have been uncontrollably listening to this on repeat and waiting ever so patiently for more. The water is nice, won’t you join me?
If you were to strip the skin from my bones and search for the true essence of Epsilon, you would find Theophilus London. This is exactly where I’m at in life. Download the Mixtape, throw him some $$$$$, and kill this as much as I have.
Dipped in Dollars (D.I.D.) is the brainchild of Chief and Danger. While attending a crazy liberal arts college in Vermont, we realized our mutual love of righteous dance music, art, and the people behind them. D.I.D. exists to share this love with you and hopefully turn you on to something new. More about the brains behind the brawn, here.
This site exists to promote artists, if you hear something you like, think about throwing the artist(s) a few dollars, buy an album, go to a concert, show them you care. If any artists or official people want us to take any of our links down, just shoot us an email and we'll take care of it. Happy Listening!
